“The single greatest thing that you can do to change your life today would be to start being grateful for what you have right now.” -Oprah Winfrey
Last week, New Orleans was hit with Hurricane Zeta. One day, I was waiting in line for trunk or treat and the next day, I was sitting inside my house listening to howling winds. The eye of the storm passed over New Orleans. Most of the city suffered wind damage and was left without power. As I type this, there are some areas still without power.
I am grateful for electricity. I am grateful for a roof over my head…even if it is missing shingles. I am grateful for my parents. Oh, but how I miss my husband. It’s times like this that I realize how much we can take someone for granted, especially a husband or companion.
Grief reminds me to be grateful…in all things, because trust me, things could be worse. Grief reminds me that being able to pick up the phone and call my husband was priceless. Grief reminded me of how we used to eat all of our hurricane snacks before the storm came. Grief reminded me of how we used to get on each other’s nerves, but we had so much fun together, Grief reminded me of the time that we “hunkered down” with our generator for a storm as newlyweds. We both learned the importance of proper ventilation that night and were grateful for our carbon monoxide detectors.
With so much going on in the world today, we have so much to be grateful for. For the month of November, let’s focus on Gratitude. You know I love challenges, and I thought it would be fun to do a Gratitude Photo Challenge.
Feel free to participate and tag me in your photos!
